Who is James Gregory?

Create a well-developed paragraph that characterizes James Gregory from the film Farwell Bafana. Clearly state the type of person he is and find a quotation that accurately supports your opinion. Be certain to describe how the quotation fits your description of James and summarize your paragraph by stating something you have learned through his life. Your task:
  1. Describe the character of James Gregory.
  2. Find a quotation to support your opinion
  3. State something that you have learned from his life
  4. Avoid using “I” or “My” statements
The paragraph is about the character traits- his personality- and not about the movie or his job. Be careful not to plot summarize your paragraph. If you summarize the film, or just summarize his life on Robben Island, you are writing off topic.  The focus is on describing his personality and the type of person he was during a time of social change in South Africa.Be  certain to focus on:
        • words (adjectives) that best describe his personality.
        • a quotation that is only being used by you that focuses on his personality, character.
        • a paragraph is a paragraph.  DO not separate the sentences into various groups.

                Commonwealth Group Presentations

Your group will create a group presentation that attempts to compare and contrast the culture of ONE Commonwealth country to Norway. Your group should be able to describe the cultural history, cultural identity and how we-they relationship affected the country's development. Your group should explore the facts of the country in the Commonwealth and draw conclusions from those facts. In essence, stating facts is not enough if you are not able to say why the facts are important.
For example, if a country has a large population you must draw some type of conclusion from the fact.  How does population affect the country's politics? Literacy rate? Infant mortality rate? Is having a large population a good thing?
Also, each member of the group should be able to speak and present information for 3-5 minutes, and your group should organize and divide yourselves to present the country cultural, political, social  and economic history

                Some guiding questions might be....

                • HOW IS NORWAY DIFFERENT THAN YOUR COMMONWEALTH COUNTRY?
                • WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF DISCRIMINATION AND RACISM? EVENTS, SITUATIONS?
                • WHAT WAS THE COUNTRY LIKE BEFORE THE BRITISH OCCUPATION?
                • WHO ARE THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE? HOW WERE THEY TREATED?
                • WHAT IS LIFE LIKE TODAY?
                • WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD COMPARE?

                Mohandas K. Gandhi

"No culture can live, if it attempts to be exclusive."

                • What is the meaning of his statement?
                • What is he saying about culture?
                • Why would he make this statement?
                • Do you agree with Gandhi?
Please try to avoid using "I think" sentences.
